Unpicked Meadow was a year long public art project for Riverside Park, Stockbridge Meadows and the people of Melbourn led by artist Jo Chapman. The project explored the natural world of the meadows and how people interacted with it through art and poetry. The project ran from May 2010 to May 2011.
The initial designs and the concept for the final artworks can be seen here and you’ll find 3 permanent art works in the Meadow.
Tea Party Celebration for Art Work Unveiling
A Year on from the Unpicked Meadow project starting, the final art work was revealed with a celebration tea party on Saturday 21st May. Over 200 people came to the Meadows and the ARTIVAN for music by Melbourn Village College students, afternoon tea and the unveiling of the art work.
The ARTIVAN is a caravan converted by Jo Chapman and students from Melbourn Village College. It was a space for the project within the Meadows for people to meet, make and show and can now be used for local community arts projects.
Over the project a number of workshops with visiting artists took place see the Past Events section for details. One of the projects was the Stockbridge Tapestry, which was displayed at the tea party. The tapestry is now held by Melbourn Parish Council and will be displayed in the village again soon, see our tapestry section for details.
