Launch weekend and Welcome Wall

Over the May bank holiday over 75 people wrote poetry, painted plaques and explored the Meadows. Have a look at some photos from the day here:

In addition more plaques have been made by young people at Orchard Manor and at Melbourn Primary School. The plaques now form a Welcome Wall to the Meadows, which you will see by the entrance.

Open Weekend

As part of the Festival 2012 Open Weekend, the ARTIVAN was on the Meadows on 25th July. During the day a renga poetry party was held (see poetry section for details) and artist Liz McGowan created lizard sculptures out of sticks with visitors.

August Make and Meet afternoons

Over August three Make and Meet afternoons occurred on Wednesday afternoons. On 4th August, sections of the Stockbridge tapestry were begun in the dry of the ARTIVAN on a very wet day! On 11th August Jo Chapman led sessions to re-create the orchards in the Meadows using riverbed clay. You’ll find the crazy fruit that were created hanging from some of the previously dead trees in the Meadows. Here are some of the photos from the day:

For the last afternoon, artist Mark Haywood led a session in which visitors could collect stamps by doing tasks inspired by the Meadows. Songs were sung, sculptures made and dances performed. Here are some photos of the tasks and the bags that were created:

Lantern Parade and Workshop

To celebrate winter, our ‘fire party’ involved a lantern parade from All Saints Community Centre to the Meadows. In the Meadows there was a beautiful candle lit art and sound installation on the ARTIVAN and a visit from Lola, the imagination nation Festival 2012 puppet. Photos coming soon…

ARTIVAN

Melbourn Village College students have been working with Jo Chapman to design the outside of the new project caravan and with interior designer Steve Papps to create exciting furniture for inside it. To see the results visit on a date the Artivan is in the Meadows this summer!

It’s first outing was at Melbourn Village Fete in it’s pre-design state, come and see it now…

Renga Poetry

Over the course of the project 4 renga poems have been written, one for each season with sociable group poetry workshops taking place to create them led by poet Clare Crossman. See the poetry section for more details.
