Cambridge News 20th February 2014 “Closure of Foxton level crossing could ‘reduce congestion from Harston to Melbourn”
http://www.cambridge-news.co.uk/Royston/Closure-of-Foxton-level-crossing-could-reduce-congestion-from-Harston-to-Melbourn-20140220060000.htm#ixzz2uzJhux3n
Network Rail (NWR) has published a detailed feasibility study investigating ways to close Foxton level crossing and create an alternative route for the A10 and safe access for rail users, pedestrians and cyclists.
The study suggests a road bridge, at an estimated cost of £11.65m, and a footbridge for pedestrians and cyclists, at an estimated cost of £2.3m. The alternative is an underpass, which would take the A10 below the railway line and re-route the road slightly through fields in Barrington.
Residents can find out more at a drop-in event on the closure of the crossing this week at Foxton Village Hall.
Mr Oakley added: “The daily exhibition is being held to get people’s views, we will then talk to Network Rail and Cambridgeshire County Council and pass on those opinions.
“One of the major concerns is accessing this new section of the A10 It’s vital there are roundabouts as nothing else would slow traffic down enough. I think closing the level crossing will cause traffic to be more freeflowing, conjestion from Harston to Melbourn would be reduced. Anything that improves safety is something we must consider as a possibility.”

Melbourn ward county councillor Susan van de Ven chairs the rail user group. She said: “While Meldreth is a healthy and important rural station, the rail user group believes that many people are missing out on access to rail services there.
“Steep flights of steps over the tracks, and another set of steps leading down to the Melbourn side of the station, mean that only those able to climb stairs can use the station. This includes not only people who are elderly or infirm, but those managing pushchairs with small children.”

Royston Crow 8th October 2013 “Station gardens get spruced up”
http://www.royston-crow.co.uk/news/station_gardens_get_spruced_up_1_2854321
In South Cambridgeshire, station garden volunteers will be tackling the tubs at Foxton, Shepreth and Meldreth Stations this month, to turn things around for the winter.
Cllr Susan van de Ven, who chairs the Foxton, Meldreth and Shepreth rail user group, said: “We try as much as possible to rely upon donations of any spare items that people and shops might be ready to share.
“For the winter, we’re looking especially for pansies and bulbs, and also any remnants of bags of compost. We can also use any split perennials to put into the side gardens at Meldreth, which are maintained in conjunction with Meldreth Primary School.
“Our gardening teams are an ever changing mix of people, and if you would like to come along to any of our sessions, please do – all you need to bring is a pair of gardening gloves.”

Cambridge News 25th September 2013 “Bus services from Cambridge railway station to city centre are overpriced ”
http://www.cambridge-news.co.uk/Royston/Bus-services-from-Cambridge-railway-station-to-city-centre-are-overpriced-says-county-councillor-20130925173457.htm
“A county councillor is calling for a cheaper bus service from Cambridge railway station to the city centre to encourage more visitors from the rural villages. Currently Stagecoach’s Plusbus service costs £3.20 and provides unlimited travel around the city centre. But cllr Susan van de Ven says it is “overpriced” for those who only require a connection to the train station and back. The chair of the Meldreth, Shepreth and Foxton Rail User Group said: “The bus journey to the centre of Cambridge is quite short but there is no special fare arranged.”

Royston Weekly News 20th March 2013 “Poppy field to commemorate Shepreth soldiers”
http://www.cambridge-news.co.uk/Royston/Field-of-poppies-to-commemorate-soldiers-from-Shepreth-20130320120907.htm
“Thousands of poppies will transform an “eyesore” at a village train station next year to mark the 100th anniversary of the First World War. The flowers will be planted as a tribute to villagers who died in the war and to remember the important role of Shepreth Railway Station, which was once used to transport wounded soldiers to hospital. The long strip of scrub land, adjacent to the Cambridge bound platform, is currently covered in a mass of brambles, so The Meldreth, Shepreth and Foxton Rail User Group hope the poppy garden will enhance the view of the station.”
