There is another major issue that although not in Melbourn, will affect the village in a way that nobody can predict. I am talking about the proposed wind turbines at Heydon Grange. And yet again, there is only a short discussion period for local councils – 12th April for a Scoping Opinion then probably straight in for the planning application. Nothing new here then!

I love the look and sound of these wonderful ‘birds’, they have a grace all of there own and driving through the countryside I find them awesome. So, yes! I know this is going to sound like nimbyism, but what really concerns me is that apparently these eleven structures are not going to be the usual towers you see along the roads. They are going to be bigger – nearly 400ft and almost certainly noisier.

Let’s not forget – if planning is successful then just opposite the Grange is another potential site and this time it will be in Melbourn.

For once I would just like to see a proper discussion and consultation on subjects that affect us all. The faceless bureaucrats in London who live miles from any possible problems are always happy to give the go ahead as long as it doesn’t affect them.

I’m not opposed to wind turbines, but I am worried that we have little information on the noise or any possible hazardous side effects these giants are going to produce.

So let’s discuss this thoroughly.

Hi What are peoples views on the standard of street lighting in Melbourn. Do people think it is about right, is to dim or bright. Also there is the cost of running it too. Studies and new technology have shown significant savings in power costs and subsequently CO2 emissions. On the Cambridgeshire County Website is an article about this  (http://www2.cambridgeshire.gov.uk/db/pressrel.nsf/6fcbd4565a583c6480256b52004254fd/216fcf4bb966e7ae802574a5003ab2ef?OpenDocument) In light of the above article (excuse the pun) what are peoples views?

While I appreciate there has been (and still is) a problem with vandalism in the High Street and with all the trouble the Spar shop has had to contend with over the recent years (ram-raiding etc.), that the occupants feel a need for the doors and windows to be protected, it really does look a mess and gives the heart of the village a really poor impression. Visitors or prospective newcomers must think we live in a very run-down community. Long gone are the days we could be proud of being labelled one of Cambridge’s necklace villages. Added to this has been the recent closure of the Star Public House also boarded up.

So can someone explain how it is that the Spar can get away with this when it is situated in the Conservation Area of the village? Are there no rules and regulations that come under the Conservation as to the upkeep and appearance of buildings along the High Street?
